Actellic 50 EC is an emulsifiable concentrate (EC) formulation containing 500 g/L pirimiphos‑methyl, a broad-spectrum insecticide and acaricide
It is designed for contact, ingestion, and fumigant action. Commonly registered by Pakistan’s Federal Crop Protection Board, it is available in 1 L and 500 mL bottles.
Features
Multi‑mode action: delivers fast knock‑down and residual control via contact, ingestion, and fumigation
Broad-spectrum efficacy: targets stored‑product pests – weevils, beetles, mites, Indian meal moth, plus flies, ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes
Long persistence: residues remain effective on inert surfaces for months or even up to a year depending on conditions
Low mammalian toxicity: considered low-risk for humans when used correctly; WHO prequalified
Resistance management tool: effective against pests resistant to pyrethroids and others, making it ideal for rotation
Benefits
Extended protection: a single application can provide grain and surface protection from pests for many months
Cost-efficient: reduces need for repeated treatments & preserves grain quality — no impact on flavor, color, or texture
Versatile application: suitable for storage facilities, grain silos, feed, livestock areas, kitchens, hotels, and even public health use
WHO-endorsed: registered under WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme as an IRS product and larvicide
Uses & Recommended Applications in Pakistan
Stored-Grain Protection
Admixture: Typically 8–10 mL per ton of clean, dry grain (moisture <15 %) for long‑term insect control
Surface treatment: Apply ~50–100 mL per 5 L water per 100 m² of storage surfaces; or 200 mL per 10 L for concrete surfaces – spray to point of run-off
Vector & Facility Pest Control
Indoor (IRS): Residual spray on walls and ceilings in poultry houses, kitchens, livestock barns: ~100 mL in 10 L water
Outdoor spraying: Around refuse tips, stockyards: ~500 mL per 10 L water per 100 m²
Thermal fog / ULV: For mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches — typical dilution ratios ~1:19 to 1:25 in diesel/kerosene or water.
Safety & Best Practices
Protective gear: Always wear gloves, overalls, respirator (organic vapor), eye protection, boots and head covering during mixing and spraying
Avoid contamination: Remove or cover all food, feed, and containers; clean food surfaces after application
Environmental care: Avoid spraying near bees or water bodies. Dispose of rinse water and containers safely via triple‑rinse and approved disposal procedures
Expert application: Use only by certified applicators or approved handlers
In the Context of Pakistan
Widely applied in grain storage facilities (wheat, rice, maize) and feed mills.
Also used for vector control in public health campaigns—especially for malaria vectors via indoor residual spraying.
Effectiveness depends on good grain drying (<15 % moisture) and correct scheduling of treatments before storage
